The CAS program aims to develop students who are: 1. reflective thinkers—they understand their own strengths and limitations, identify goals and devise strategies for personal growth 2. willing to accept new challenges and new roles 3. aware of themselves as members of communities with responsibilities towards each other and the environment 4. active participants in sustained, collaborative projects 5. balanced in that they enjoy and find significance in a range of activities involving intellectual, physical, creative and emotional experiences. IB CAS ADVISORIES This year, the IBO changed the face of CAS. Since the emphasis on CAS is the achievement of the 8 Learner Outcomes and not a number/hour counting game, the IBO developed a CAS Advisory program for IB students. This CAS Advisory program is designed to help students achieve their outcome and support and excellent quality CAS activities program by a. providing students with a teacher Advisor who work with them over their 18 months in CAS b. providing them with time to discuss issues related to CAS, such as, time to receive instruction on setting goals, learning how to write good reflections, planning CAS activities, learning how to collaborate, and time management. c. Training students to maintain the records and helping them learn how to set their goal, identify how it is a stretch for them and identifying the outcomes that they will work on in each CAS activitity. d. time to discuss the quality of their reflection and time to have THREE interviews over 18 months where they must prove to their advisor ( with evidence/journals , photos etc) that they are working on achieving the 8 Learner Outcomes. Reflections are the evidence students must provide in interview and there is a Rubric for evaluations. Students meet with advisors in a Core Block in the 1st semester. The first Interview takes place in Dec/Jan, the second Interview will happen at the end of their first year and the third interview ( the final one) take place in Feb/March of their second year. e. time to learn from other IB CAS students.
